Most of our Brundidge calls come from Main Street and the US-231 corridor, though we work the whole Pike County side of it and get out to Troy regularly.
A lot of what we see in Pike County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Common door closer repair faults in Pike County
These are the door closer repair faults we are called out to most often in Brundidge. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The door is very hard to push openCloser over-tensioned, often to compensate for a door that will not latch.
- A fire door that stays openSerious safety issue: failed closer or a hold-open that should be releasing.
- Screws pulling out of the door or frameCloser mounting has failed, often because the closer was undersized for the door.
- Grinding from a floor closerWorn spindle or bearings in the floor unit.
- The door slamsLatch speed valve out of adjustment, or a closer that has failed internally.
- There is a knock at the end of the opening swingNo backcheck, or backcheck that has failed, so the arm is bottoming out.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895How conditions in Brundidge affect door closer repair
The Wiregrass gets punishing summer heat and enough tropical rain that hurricane remnants are a normal part of the year, not an exception. Sally and Michael both did door and window damage this far inland.
Water running down a door face and into a surface closer body corrodes the internals and the mounting fasteners, and a closer that has been wet repeatedly usually fails at the seal.
Direct sun heats a closer body and thins its fluid, so a door on a sunny elevation closes noticeably faster in the afternoon than it does in the morning and can start slamming.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Brundidge: heavy rainfall and sun and heat load — typical of the Wiregrass.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895How a Brundidge door closer repair visit works
- Watch the door close, twiceThe speed of the last few inches and the first few tells us most of what we need to know before we touch a valve.
- Rule out the door before blaming the closerA door binding on the frame makes a perfectly good closer look weak, and turning the closer up is the wrong answer.
- Adjust before replacingMany closers we are called to are serviceable and simply out of adjustment. That is a much smaller job and we say so.
- Size the replacement properlyCloser size depends on door width and weight and on whether it faces exterior wind. Undersized closers fail early.
- Set for people, not just for latchingThe door needs to close and latch every time and still be openable by someone with limited strength. We look at how much sand is reaching the opening, since sometimes a sweep or a threshold change does more good than new hardware.
- Fit a stop if it needs oneA closer with no backcheck and no stop will eventually put the handle through the wall and tear its own fixings out.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door closer repair in Brundidge
There is no single price for door closer repair in Brundidge, because two doors with identical symptoms can need very different work. Here is what makes the difference:
- surface, concealed or floor mounted closer type
- adding overhead stops or hold-open functions
- the size and weight of the door and its exposure to wind
- whether the mounting has to be repaired or reinforced
- fire rating and accessibility compliance requirements
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Brundidge.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door closer repair in Brundidge: questions we get asked
Why is our door so heavy to open now?
Somebody has probably turned the closer up to force a door that was not latching. That is treating a symptom, and it makes the door difficult for customers and staff. Fix the latching problem and the closer can come back to a reasonable setting.
There is oil dripping from my door closer. Can it be refilled?
No. Closers are sealed units, and once the seal fails the closer is finished. Refilling is not possible on standard units and the unit needs replacing.
Do door closers need different settings in summer and winter?
They can. The hydraulic fluid thins in heat and thickens in cold, so a closer set perfectly in Brundidge in August may close too slowly in January. Quality closers hold their setting better across the temperature swing.
What size closer do I need?
It depends on the door width, weight and exposure. Exterior doors in Pike County also need to handle wind, and an undersized closer on a windy exposure gets destroyed.
How long do door closers last?
A good quality closer on a properly hung door can run for well over a decade. A cheap closer on a heavy exterior door in Brundidge might last a couple of years, especially if it is fighting a misaligned door.
The closer arm on our door is bent. What causes that?
The door was opened past its limit, usually by wind catching it or by someone pushing it hard against a wall. Replacing the arm without adding an overhead stop just means it happens again.
