The most common screen door call we get is a sliding screen that has fallen out of its track for the third time. That is a roller and track problem, not a screen problem, and no amount of forcing it back up will fix it.

How we work

  1. Check whether it is the screen or the trackA screen that keeps coming out is usually a roller and track problem, and rescreening it would not solve anything.
  2. Assess the frame for squareA racked frame will not sit in the track properly no matter what mesh is in it.
  3. Choose the right meshStandard fiberglass, pet-resistant, solar or fine mesh, depending on pets, sun exposure and what insects you are dealing with.
  4. Rescreen with correct tensionEven tension and properly seated spline so the mesh does not sag or pull out of the channel.
  5. Fit and adjust the rollersSet so the panel rides smoothly and stays captured in the head channel.
  6. Test the full travelThe door should move with one finger, latch cleanly and stay in the track.

Screen Door Repair FAQs

My sliding screen keeps falling out. Why does it keep happening?

The rollers have worn down so the panel is riding too low and the top rail no longer sits in the head channel. Lifting it back in without replacing the rollers means it will come out again, usually within days.

Is it worth rescreening or should I just buy a new screen door?

Rescreening is far cheaper and the frame is usually fine. New panels only make sense when the frame is bent beyond straightening or the corners are gone.

What mesh should I use if I have dogs?

Pet-resistant mesh, which is a heavier vinyl-coated polyester, and often a pet grille across the lower section. Standard fiberglass will not survive a dog that pushes against it.

Can you make a screen that keeps out the tiny biting insects?

Yes, fine no-see-um mesh. It has a much tighter weave, and in the parts of your County near water it is the only thing that actually works against the smallest biters.

My screen mesh has gone brittle and crumbles. What happened?

UV exposure. Screens on the south and west sides of a house in your area take a lot of sun, and standard fiberglass mesh eventually degrades. Solar mesh lasts longer and cuts heat at the same time.

Do you repair storm doors as well as screens?

Yes, including closers, latches, sweeps, hinges and glass or screen inserts. Storm door closers that have torn out of the frame after a gust are one of the most common calls.
