The Tennessee Valley
The Tennessee Valley runs a wider temperature swing than most of Alabama. Summer humidity sits on aluminum and vinyl frames for months, then December through February drops below freezing dozens of nights, and the valley picks up an ice event every few winters.
The Shoals
The Shoals sits right on the Tennessee River, and that water keeps humidity high enough to swell wood doors from May through September. Winter then swings the other direction with repeated freezes that shrink the same material.
The Sand Mountain And Lookout Mountain Plateau
Up on the plateau the thermometer reads several degrees colder than the valley, and it stays below freezing longer. Ice storms are a real planning item here, not a novelty.
The Appalachian Foothills
The foothills get real cold snaps and real heat, and the ground moves with them. Rocky, uneven fill under older slabs means door frames rarely stay perfectly square for a decade.
The Birmingham Metro
Birmingham-area red clay expands when it is wet and contracts hard when it dries out. That movement travels straight up into slabs and foundations, and door frames are usually the first place a homeowner notices it.
West Alabama
West Alabama collects a lot of rain, and it comes in hard bursts. Doors here fail at the bottom first, where water sits against the sweep and the end grain.
The Black Belt
Black Belt soil is the reason so many doors in this part of Alabama do not close right. That dark prairie clay swells dramatically when saturated and shrinks in a dry August, and a house sitting on it moves with it.
The River Region
Summers here are long and genuinely hot, and afternoon thunderstorms arrive most days in July. Anything that relies on a rubber seal ages fast under that combination of UV and heat.
East Central Alabama
East central Alabama runs humid most of the year with mild winters, so wood movement is gradual but constant rather than dramatic.
The Wiregrass
The Wiregrass gets punishing summer heat and enough tropical rain that hurricane remnants are a normal part of the year, not an exception. Sally and Michael both did door and window damage this far inland.
The Alabama Gulf Coast
Salt air is the single biggest factor on the coast. It attacks the steel inside roller bearings, hinge pins, latch mechanisms and closer springs, and it does it year round whether or not a storm ever comes.

Do you repair sliding doors or only replace them?
Repair, in almost every case. The frame and the glass on a sliding patio door usually have years left in them, and it is the rollers, the track surface and the weatherstrip that have worn out. Rebuilding those costs a fraction of a replacement door.
Which parts of Alabama do you cover?

Do you work on commercial doors as well as houses?
Yes. Storefront entrances, hollow metal service doors, closers, exit devices and automatic doors are a large part of what we do, and we schedule around trading hours where we can.
My sliding door came off its track. Is that expensive to fix?
Usually not. A panel comes out of the track because it has dropped, which means worn rollers or backed-out adjusters. Putting it back without correcting the height just means it happens again, so the fix is the rollers rather than the lifting.
How do I know whether it is the door, the frame or the hardware?
Often you cannot tell from the symptom, because a lock that will not throw, a door that will not latch and a draft you can feel can all come from the same underlying cause. Describe what is happening when you call and we will narrow it down.
