Patio Door Repair — Gulf Shores, Alabama

We service every part of Gulf Shores, including West Beach and Fort Morgan Road, and the nearby Baldwin County towns like Daphne and Fairhope.

The mix of housing here matters for door work. Older Gulf Shores homes have wood frames and hardware worth repairing rather than replacing, while newer construction tends to have vinyl and aluminum systems where the moving parts wear out long before anything else does.

The patio door repair problems we see most in Gulf Shores

These are the patio door repair faults we are called out to most often in Gulf Shores. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.

  • The panel moves easily for a foot then gets heavyA localised worn section of track, or a roller dropping into a damaged part of the running surface.
  • The doors rattle in the windLoose panel fit and worn weatherstrip letting the panel move in its frame.
  • Water on the floor after a stormBlocked sill drainage or a failed threshold seal.
  • The keeper and the lock hook no longer line upPanel drop. The hardware is fine, its position relative to the frame is not.
  • Rollers audible as a rumble across the trackFlat spots on the wheels.
  • The lock will not engage without pushing the doorPanel alignment has drifted and the latch no longer meets the keeper.

Gulf Shores conditions and patio door repair

Between roughly 65 inches of rain a year, near-constant humidity and a June-to-November hurricane season, coastal doors work harder than doors anywhere else in Alabama.

Sand blown and tracked into a patio door track packs under the rollers and grinds the running surface, and on a house near open ground it is the single biggest thing shortening the life of the hardware.

Storm wind loads the large panel area of a patio door hard, working panels out of alignment, popping interlocks and testing whether the latch is genuinely engaging or just resting against the keeper.

We see the pattern often enough across Baldwin County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.

Local factors we account for in Gulf Shores: blowing sand and storm wind — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

How we approach patio door repair

  1. Identify what you actually haveSliding, hinged, multi-slide or lift-and-slide. Each fails differently and needs different parts.
  2. Check the opening for squareWe measure the reveal at both jambs and the head. A racked opening explains most patio door faults on its own. On the coast we also check every fastener on the opening, because salt finds plated screws long before it touches the door itself.
  3. Pull the panel where neededGetting the panel out is the only way to properly assess rollers, the bottom rail and the track.
  4. Rebuild the moving partsRollers, hinges, latches and seals replaced with hardware matched to the door.
  5. Reset alignment and sealThe panel is levelled, the interlock is checked along its length, and the weatherstrip is set to contact without dragging.
  6. Test it under loadWe work the door repeatedly and check the lock engages with the panel simply pushed closed.

What affects the cost of patio door repair in Gulf Shores

What a patio door repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:

  • how far the frame has moved out of square
  • the condition of the weatherstrip and threshold
  • the weight of the panels, which drives hardware selection
  • the type of patio door and how many panels it has
  • whether rollers alone or rollers plus track work are needed

Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Gulf Shores.

Patio door repair in Gulf Shores: questions we get asked

My patio door rattles in the wind. Is that a problem?

It means the panel is loose in the frame and the weatherstrip is no longer holding it. Beyond the noise, it also means air and water are getting through, and in Baldwin County storm season that matters.

Can you fix a foggy patio door glass panel?

The seal on the insulated unit has failed and the glass itself needs replacing, but the frame and the rest of the door do not. We replace the glass unit in place.

Can the screen be repaired or does it need replacing?

Both are common. Bent frames and destroyed mesh usually get replaced; worn rollers and torn spline are straightforward repairs.

Do you work on French patio doors as well as sliders?

Yes. Hinged French pairs have a different set of problems, mostly hinge sag, astragal binding and multipoint lock failures, but they are just as repairable.

Do multi-panel stacking doors need different service?

They need more attention to alignment. With three or four panels, every panel has to be set right or they bind against each other, and the weight per roller is higher than a standard slider.

Why is there a draft down the middle of my patio door?

The interlock weatherstrip where the panels overlap has compressed or gone brittle. That seal does most of the work on the middle of the door and it is replaceable without touching the glass.
