Most of our Hartford calls come from Main Street and the AL-167 corridor, though we work the whole Geneva County side of it and get out to Geneva regularly.
Hartford has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

The Wiregrass gets punishing summer heat and enough tropical rain that hurricane remnants are a normal part of the year, not an exception. Sally and Michael both did door and window damage this far inland.
Windows are designed to collect water in the frame and drain it out through weep holes, and blocked weeps during heavy rain is the standard reason water appears on an interior sill.
Sun breaks down the edge seal of insulated glass units and the vinyl in window weatherstrip, which is why south and west facing windows fog and leak air years before north facing ones do.
We factor that in on every window repair job around the Hartford town square and the rest of Hartford.
Local factors we account for in Hartford: heavy rainfall and sun and heat load — typical of the Wiregrass.
Most doors we see are repairable.Call and find out before you price a replacement.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895How we approach window repair
- Identify the window and its makerBalances, operators and hardware are manufacturer-specific. Identifying the system decides what is available and what has to be adapted.
- Test the moving parts independentlySash movement, locking and sealing each get checked separately so we know which one has failed.
- Check the drainageBlocked weep slots put water on the sill and into the wall, and they are behind a lot of what gets blamed on the glass.
- Repair rather than replace where it makes senseFrames and glass usually outlast hardware by decades, and hardware is replaceable.
- Reseal properlyCorrect sealant on a clean, sound surface, and glazing set with the right blocking so the unit is supported rather than pinched.
- Test operation and lock engagementThe window should open, close and lock without force. Sandy-soil jobs get their running surfaces cleaned out thoroughly, because new rollers fitted into a gritty track will not last a year.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of window repair in Hartford
What a window repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- single window versus several in one visit
- commercial glazing and access requirements
- glass unit size, tempering and low-E coatings
- the type of window and whether replacement hardware is still available
- screen work alongside the window repair

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Window repair in Hartford: questions we get asked
Can you replace glass without replacing the whole window?
Yes, in nearly all cases. Broken panes, cracked glass and failed insulated units are all replaceable in the existing frame.
Can painted-shut windows be opened again?
Usually yes, with care. It takes patience to cut the paint seal without damaging the sash or the stops, but old windows in Hartford homes are often perfectly serviceable once freed.
Why will my window not lock anymore?
The sash has dropped or shifted, so the lock and keeper no longer meet. Forcing it can break the lock, and the actual fix is usually alignment rather than new hardware.
How do I stop condensation on my windows in winter?
Some of it is indoor humidity rather than the window. But if the glass surface is cold enough to condense heavily, the unit may have failed. In Hartford it is worth checking whether the moisture is on the surface or between the panes.
My window will not stay open. What is broken?
The balances. On a double hung window they counterweight the sash, and when one fails the sash drops. It is a replaceable part and far cheaper than a new window.
Water is coming in at my window sill. What causes that?
Usually blocked weep holes. Windows are designed to collect water in the frame and drain it out, and when those drains clog it backs up and comes inside instead.
