We cover Hokes Bluff and the rest of Etowah County, from the AL-77 corridor across to Alford Bend Road, and we are out this way often enough that Altoona and Gadsden are on the same run.
Between the established parts of Hokes Bluff and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.

Storms coming off the ridges dump a lot of water in a short time, and any door with a compromised threshold pan will show it on the floor inside.
Cold makes screen spline brittle and it shrinks in the channel, which is why mesh often comes loose along one edge after a hard winter even though nothing touched it.
Wind gets behind a screen panel and pushes it out of the track, and on hinged screen and storm doors a gust catching the door is what tears closers out of the frame.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Hokes Bluff: winter freezes and storm wind — typical of the Appalachian foothills.

- Work out whether it is the screen or the trackA screen that jams is often a track problem. Replacing rollers in a damaged track fixes nothing.
- Check the frame for squareA racked frame will never slide properly. Corner keys get reset before anything else is considered.
- Choose the right meshStandard fiberglass, pet-resistant, solar or fine mesh, depending on pets, sun exposure and what insects you are dealing with. In the foothills we check exposure on each elevation, since a door on the weather side ages at a completely different rate to one that is sheltered.
- Rescreen with correct tensionEven tension and properly seated spline so the mesh does not sag or pull out of the channel.
- Fit and adjust the rollersSet so the panel rides smoothly and stays captured in the head channel.
- Test the full travelEnd to end, several times, with the latch engaging cleanly at the close.

There is no single price for screen door repair in Hokes Bluff, because two doors with identical symptoms can need very different work. Here is what makes the difference:
- storm door hardware such as closers and latches
- the mesh type chosen, from standard fiberglass to pet-resistant and solar
- custom-built replacement panels where the original is not repairable
- the size of the panel

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Screen door repair in Hokes Bluff: questions we get asked
My storm door blew open and broke. Can it be repaired?
Usually yes: the closer and its mounting take the damage. We repair the mounting and fit a wind chain so the next gust does not do the same thing.
Can a bent screen frame be straightened?
Sometimes. Light aluminum frames can often be brought back to square, but a badly racked frame is usually better replaced, and a custom panel is not expensive.
My sliding screen keeps falling out. Why does it keep happening?
The rollers have worn down so the panel is riding too low and the top rail no longer sits in the head channel. Lifting it back in without replacing the rollers means it will come out again, usually within days.
My screen mesh has gone brittle and crumbles. What happened?
UV exposure. Screens on the south and west sides of a house in Hokes Bluff take a lot of sun, and standard fiberglass mesh eventually degrades. Solar mesh lasts longer and cuts heat at the same time.
What mesh should I use if I have dogs?
Pet-resistant mesh, which is a heavier vinyl-coated polyester, and often a pet grille across the lower section. Standard fiberglass will not survive a dog that pushes against it.
The screen slides hard even though it is not falling out. What is wrong?
Either the rollers have seized or the track is packed with debris. In Hokes Bluff the track collects a surprising amount of grit, and it acts like grinding paste on the rollers.
