We service every part of Moody, including the Moody Parkway corridor and Kelly Creek, and the nearby St. Clair County towns like Pell City and Springville.
Moody has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

These are the door handle repair faults we are called out to most often in Moody. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Grinding or gritty feel when you turn itDebris or corrosion inside the mechanism.
- The whole handle set is loose on the doorBacked-out mounting screws, or a bore that has worn oversized.
- The finish is pitting or flakingCorrosion, usually from humidity or salt exposure on an exterior door.
- The inside lever works but the outside one does notA sheared spindle or a split-spindle set with one half stripped at the tang.
- You have to jiggle the handle for the door to openThe latch is only partly retracting, or the strike is catching it.
- The handle set has left rub marks on the door faceThe rose has loosened and is rotating, which will eventually chew through the finish.

Storms coming off the ridges dump a lot of water in a short time, and any door with a compromised threshold pan will show it on the floor inside.
As a frame shifts with the soil under it, the latch stops meeting the strike squarely, and the handle mechanism ends up doing work it was never designed for every single time the door is used.
Wind catching a door pulls it out of somebody's hand and slams it, and repeated slamming is what loosens handle mounting screws and eventually oversizes the bore in the door.
Knowing that is the difference between a repair that holds through a Moody summer and one that does not.
Local factors we account for in Moody: soil movement and storm wind — typical of the Appalachian foothills.

- Work out whether it is the handle or the latchThey feel similar from the outside. Turning the handle with the door open tells us immediately which part has failed.
- Check the door before the hardwareA lever that needs force is often fighting a misaligned strike rather than failing on its own.
- Reuse what is soundIf the escutcheons and cylinder are good, we change the failed part and keep the rest, which matters on matched sets.
- Fit square to the doorBackset, thickness and bore all get checked. A set fitted to an oversized bore will work loose again within weeks.
- Adjust the latch engagementThe door should close and latch with a light push, not a shove.
- Match the run where we canOn a commercial run of levers, consistency matters. We fit to match the existing rather than leaving one odd door. We check for freeze damage as well as wear on foothill openings, since both are common and they need different fixes.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door handle repair in Moody
What a door handle repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- whether the bore or backset needs correction
- commercial grade requirements on high-use doors
- the grade and finish of the hardware chosen
- keyed versus non-keyed function
- how many doors are being done at once
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Moody.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door handle repair in Moody: questions we get asked
Do I need to replace the lock to replace the handle?
Not necessarily. On a keyed entry set they are integrated, but on many doors the handle and the deadbolt are separate and you can change one without touching the other.
Why does my door rattle after a new handle was fitted?
The new latch is probably sitting at a slightly different depth than the old one, so the strike no longer holds the door tight. Adjusting the strike fixes it in a few minutes.
Why does my exterior handle keep corroding?
Exposure. In St. Clair County an exterior handle needs a finish rated for it, and cheap plated hardware on a door that gets weather will pit within a couple of years no matter how well it is installed.
My lever handle droops. Can that be repaired?
Yes, usually. The return spring inside the handle body has failed. On decent hardware we can replace the spring cassette; on thin builder-grade sets it is often cheaper to fit a better handle than to rebuild a weak one.
Can you fix an old mortise handle set on a historic door?
Often yes. Old mortise sets were built to be serviced, and the original hardware is usually better made than any replacement. We would rather rebuild it than gut a door for a modern set.
Do you do commercial handle and lever work?
Yes, including Grade 1 lever sets, classroom and storeroom functions and hardware on doors with closers, where the handle has to work against constant spring pressure.
Tell us what the door is doing and we will tell you what it needs. No guesswork over the phone, no pressure.
