Whether you are near Wind Creek Atmore, over in Downtown Atmore, or on the the Main Street corridor side of Atmore, it is the same coverage and the same crew.
Atmore has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.
One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.
Click to Call (205) 619-2895The exterior door repair problems we see most in Atmore
These are the exterior door repair faults we are called out to most often in Atmore. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Warping visible along the door edgeMoisture imbalance between the interior and exterior faces of the slab.
- The deadbolt does not throw fullyStrike misalignment, and a security problem until it is fixed.
- The door is tight in the morning and loose by eveningA door absorbing moisture overnight and drying through the day, which points to an unsealed edge.
- There is a tide line across the bottom of the doorStanding water at the threshold, which means drainage rather than the door is the real fault.
- Fasteners are showing rust streaks down the door faceNon-stainless fixings on an exposed opening, which will keep staining and eventually fail.
- Soft wood at the bottom of the door or jambRot from standing water; the sooner it is caught the smaller the repair.

Salt air is the single biggest factor on the coast. It attacks the steel inside roller bearings, hinge pins, latch mechanisms and closer springs, and it does it year round whether or not a storm ever comes.
Wind-driven rain hits an entry door horizontally, which defeats seals that would handle vertical rain without difficulty, and the water gets in at the top corners and behind the brickmould.
Water reaching a threshold with no sill pan under it goes into the framing and the subfloor, and by the time it shows as a soft jamb the damage underneath is usually well advanced.
It is why the same repair done properly in Atmore lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Atmore: storm wind and heavy rainfall — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

- Check it in the closed position firstAn exterior door only has to work in one position. We look at how it sits shut before we look at how it swings.
- Follow the waterStaining, rot and rust all point uphill to an entry point. We find that before repairing anything downstream of it.
- Get the door sitting right in its openingEven contact all round is what makes a seal work. Uneven contact is why the last set of weatherstrip failed.
- Fit for the exposureStainless fixings, marine-grade or coated hardware and the correct sweep, depending on how much weather the opening takes.
- Make the lock work without forceThe deadbolt should throw completely with one finger and the door untouched. On the coast we also check every fastener on the opening, because salt finds plated screws long before it touches the door itself.
- Check the finish and the edgesTop and bottom edges get sealed, because unsealed end grain is the fastest way back to a warped door.
Most doors we see are repairable.Call and find out before you price a replacement.
Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of exterior door repair in Atmore
Every exterior door repair call in Escambia County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:
- whether water management details also need correcting
- the material of the door: wood, fiberglass or steel
- weatherstrip and threshold work versus structural repair
- whether the frame has rot that needs splicing
- sidelight and transom glass replacement
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Atmore.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Exterior door repair in Atmore: questions we get asked
My sidelight glass has fogged up. Can that be replaced separately?
Yes. Sidelights and transoms use insulated glass units that can be replaced on their own, without touching the door.
Should I add a storm door to my entry?
It helps with weather and with keeping the door itself out of direct sun and rain, which extends the life of the finish. On a door that already gets full afternoon sun in Atmore, it is worth considering.
Why does my front door stick in summer and not in winter?
Seasonal movement in the door and the frame. In Atmore's humid months a wood door takes on moisture and grows slightly, and a door that already had tight clearance starts binding.
I can see daylight around my front door. Is that just weatherstrip?
Sometimes, but check whether the gap is even. A consistent gap all the way around is a weatherstrip job. A gap that is wide at one corner and tight at another means the door or frame has moved, and new weatherstrip will not close it.
Can you make my front door easier to open for an older parent?
Yes. Lever hardware instead of a knob, correct hinge adjustment so the door is not fighting the frame, and a threshold that is not a trip hazard all make a real difference.
Is my front door secure enough?
The weak point on most entry doors is not the lock, it is the strike. A deadbolt in a strike plate held by short screws into thin jamb material offers much less than people assume. Reinforcing it is inexpensive.
