These are the sliding door repair faults we are called out to most often in Citronelle. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Daylight at the top or bottom cornerThe panel is out of plumb, usually from uneven roller adjustment or a frame that has moved.
- The track has a raised lip you can catch a fingernail onAluminium track peened over by a panel that has been running on bare wheel housings.
- Water on the floor after heavy rainBlocked weep holes in the sill, so the track fills and backs up over the interior lip.
- The door stops short of the jamb by half an inchDebris packed at the end of the track, or an adjuster screw wound fully out.
- The screen door falls out constantlyWorn screen rollers and a bent top or bottom rail on the screen frame.
- Condensation between the glass panesFailed insulated glass seal in the panel; the glass unit itself needs replacement.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why sliding door repair fails in the Alabama Gulf Coast
Between roughly 65 inches of rain a year, near-constant humidity and a June-to-November hurricane season, coastal doors work harder than doors anywhere else in Alabama.
Fine sand tracked in on feet ends up in the bottom track, where it works like a lapping compound between the roller wheel and the aluminum, and doors on sandy lots wear out roller sets two or three times faster than doors that stay clean.
Sliding door sills are designed to collect water and drain it back outside through weep holes, and after a heavy rain those weeps are exactly where debris ends up, so the track fills, the water backs over the interior lip, and the roller assemblies sit in standing water.
It is why the same repair done properly in Citronelle lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Citronelle: blowing sand and heavy rainfall — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895How we approach sliding door repair
- Look at the whole opening, not just the doorWe check the panel, the track, the head channel and the frame for square before touching a screwdriver, because a door that is fighting the frame will eat a new set of rollers in a year.
- Get the glass out of the way safelyA patio panel is heavy and awkward. We take it out properly so the track and the roller housings can actually be seen.
- Match rollers to the door, not the cataloguePanel weight, housing type and track profile all decide the roller. Fitting whatever is on the van is why doors come back. Coastal jobs get stainless or coated fixings as standard, since anything else here is a return visit waiting to happen.
- Bring the running surface backA pitted or peened track will destroy new rollers in a season, so it gets dressed, capped or replaced before anything goes back in.
- Set it so the lock works without liftingThe height is right when the latch engages with the door simply pushed closed. Anything you have to lift is still misadjusted.
- Hand it back working the way you use itWe open and close it the way you would, one-handed, and check the lock, the screen and the drainage before we leave.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of sliding door repair in Citronelle
Every sliding door repair call in Mobile County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:
- how much damage the worn track has taken before the call
- the age of the door and whether replacement hardware is still made for it
- the size and weight of the panel, since heavy insulated glass units need heavier assemblies
- whether the fix is rollers only or rollers plus track repair
- how many panels the system has, since three and four panel doors take longer to set
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Citronelle.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Sliding door repair in Citronelle: questions we get asked
Is there anything I can do to make my sliding door last longer?
Vacuum the track rather than sweeping it, keep silicone rather than oil-based lubricant on the running surface, and check that the weep holes at the bottom of the sill are open. Oil-based products in Citronelle collect dust and grit and turn into grinding paste.
My door came off the track. Did I break something?
Usually not. A panel comes out of the track when it has dropped low enough that the head channel no longer holds it, which means the rollers were already worn or the adjustment screws backed out. Putting it back without correcting the height means it will happen again.
Do you repair the older aluminum sliding doors?
Yes, and there are a lot of them in Citronelle. Aluminum frames from the sixties through the eighties are actually good candidates for repair because the frame material has not degraded; it is the rollers, the track surface and the weatherstrip that have worn out.
Will new rollers fix a door that scrapes loudly?
Only if the track is still in good condition. Once a roller has broken through and the housing has been riding on bare aluminum, the track has a groove worn in it, and new rollers dropped onto that groove will fail quickly. That is when we cap the track.
Can you fix the lock without fixing the door?
Sometimes, but if the door has settled, a new lock will not line up with the keeper any better than the old one did. We check the panel alignment first, because a lock that will not catch is often a symptom rather than the actual problem.
Can a sliding door that has stopped rolling be fixed, or does it need replacing?
Almost always fixed. The frame and glass are usually fine and it is the two small roller assemblies underneath that have failed. Replacing a whole patio door in Citronelle is a several thousand dollar job; rebuilding the rollers and track is a fraction of that and gets you a door that rolls better than it has in years.
