Our territory takes in Eclectic and the communities around it in Elmore County, so calls from Main Street, the AL-63 corridor and out by Lake Martin's south end all get the same response.
A lot of what we see in Elmore County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

These are the sliding door repair faults we are called out to most often in Eclectic. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The interlock at the meeting stile has separatedThe panel has dropped far enough that the stiles no longer engage each other.
- The door stops short of the jamb by half an inchDebris packed at the end of the track, or an adjuster screw wound fully out.
- Daylight at the top or bottom cornerThe panel is out of plumb, usually from uneven roller adjustment or a frame that has moved.
- The door takes both hands to moveAlmost always flat-spotted or seized rollers, sometimes a track that has worn into a trough.
- It jumps off the trackThe panel has dropped low enough that it is no longer captured by the head channel, or the roller adjustment screws have backed out.
- Condensation between the glass panesFailed insulated glass seal in the panel; the glass unit itself needs replacement.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895How conditions in Eclectic affect sliding door repair
Remnants of Gulf systems still carry serious rain this far inland, and doors on the south and west sides of a house take the brunt of it.
Sun loading on a west-facing patio slider expands the aluminum frame through the afternoon and degrades the vinyl weatherstrip and the glazing gaskets, so the door that slides fine at nine in the morning is tight by four.
Long humid stretches keep condensation on the cold aluminum frame of a slider almost continuously, and that moisture rusts roller axles and adjustment screws from the inside, which is why the screws often shear when someone finally tries to adjust the door.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Eclectic: sun and heat load and sustained humidity — typical of the River Region.

- Start with the openingBefore the panel comes out we check the header for deflection and the sill for level, because a door cannot run true in an opening that is not.
- Pull and inspect the panelThe panel comes out so we can see the roller housings, the bottom rail and the condition of the track underneath.
- Match rollers to the door, not the cataloguePanel weight, housing type and track profile all decide the roller. Fitting whatever is on the van is why doors come back.
- Bring the running surface backA pitted or peened track will destroy new rollers in a season, so it gets dressed, capped or replaced before anything goes back in. In the River Region we check for both humidity swelling and clay movement, because the two are easy to confuse and need different work.
- Level the panel, then set the heightBoth adjusters are wound together so the panel sits level and the interlock engages along its whole length, not just at the top.
- Hand it back working the way you use itWe open and close it the way you would, one-handed, and check the lock, the screen and the drainage before we leave.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of sliding door repair in Eclectic
Every sliding door repair call in Elmore County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:
- whether the frame has moved and needs shimming or refastening
- the age of the door and whether replacement hardware is still made for it
- whether the fix is rollers only or rollers plus track repair
- how many panels the system has, since three and four panel doors take longer to set
- the size and weight of the panel, since heavy insulated glass units need heavier assemblies
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Eclectic.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Sliding door repair in Eclectic: questions we get asked
How long does a sliding door repair take?
Most single roller-and-track jobs in Eclectic take one to two hours. Multi-panel doors, doors with damaged tracks that need capping, or units that also need glass work take longer, and we tell you which category yours falls into before we start.
Will new rollers fix a door that scrapes loudly?
Only if the track is still in good condition. Once a roller has broken through and the housing has been riding on bare aluminum, the track has a groove worn in it, and new rollers dropped onto that groove will fail quickly. That is when we cap the track.
Can a sliding door that has stopped rolling be fixed, or does it need replacing?
Almost always fixed. The frame and glass are usually fine and it is the two small roller assemblies underneath that have failed. Replacing a whole patio door in Eclectic is a several thousand dollar job; rebuilding the rollers and track is a fraction of that and gets you a door that rolls better than it has in years.
Is there anything I can do to make my sliding door last longer?
Vacuum the track rather than sweeping it, keep silicone rather than oil-based lubricant on the running surface, and check that the weep holes at the bottom of the sill are open. Oil-based products in Eclectic collect dust and grit and turn into grinding paste.
Do you repair the older aluminum sliding doors?
Yes, and there are a lot of them in Eclectic. Aluminum frames from the sixties through the eighties are actually good candidates for repair because the frame material has not degraded; it is the rollers, the track surface and the weatherstrip that have worn out.
Do you replace the glass in sliding doors too?
Yes. Fogged units where the insulated seal has failed, cracked panes and full tempered glass replacement are all part of what we do, and we can usually keep the existing frame.
