Yes. Glass in and around doors is a safety glazing position under code, which means tempered or laminated. It is not somewhere to save money with ordinary annealed glass.
Is a crack in door glass urgent?
Treat it as urgent. Cracked glass is weakened glass, and door glass gets slammed, leaned on and hit by weather. It also fails the security job it is doing.
Will new glass help with heat coming through my patio door?

Can foggy door glass be cleaned or defogged?
No. The moisture is sealed inside the insulated unit between the panes, so there is no surface to clean. The glass unit gets replaced, but the door and frame stay.
