Between Tuskegee proper, the Downtown Tuskegee area and the newer building out toward the university district, we stay busy in Macon County, and Notasulga is close enough that we are often nearby.
A lot of what we see in Macon County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

These are the sliding door repair faults we are called out to most often in Tuskegee. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Daylight at the top or bottom cornerThe panel is out of plumb, usually from uneven roller adjustment or a frame that has moved.
- The door takes both hands to moveAlmost always flat-spotted or seized rollers, sometimes a track that has worn into a trough.
- It jumps off the trackThe panel has dropped low enough that it is no longer captured by the head channel, or the roller adjustment screws have backed out.
- The door bounces or chatters as it movesFlat spots worn onto nylon roller wheels that have been running on grit.
- Cold air pouring in around the edgesCollapsed weatherstrip and worn pile seals, and often a gap the panel misalignment created.
- It slides fine one way and binds the otherOne roller of the tandem pair has collapsed, so the panel is running out of level.

The wet winter and dry late-summer cycle here is severe enough that a door adjusted perfectly in February can bind badly by September.
Long humid stretches keep condensation on the cold aluminum frame of a slider almost continuously, and that moisture rusts roller axles and adjustment screws from the inside, which is why the screws often shear when someone finally tries to adjust the door.
Sliding door sills are designed to collect water and drain it back outside through weep holes, and after a heavy rain those weeps are exactly where debris ends up, so the track fills, the water backs over the interior lip, and the roller assemblies sit in standing water.
We see the pattern often enough across Macon County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Tuskegee: sustained humidity and heavy rainfall — typical of the Black Belt.

- Look at the whole opening, not just the doorWe check the panel, the track, the head channel and the frame for square before touching a screwdriver, because a door that is fighting the frame will eat a new set of rollers in a year.
- Lift the panel out and inspect itThe wheels come off the housings and get checked for flat spots, seized bearings and housings that have been running on bare metal. We note the reveal measurements on clay-soil jobs so that if it shifts again there is a baseline to compare against.
- Match the hardwareSliding door rollers are not universal. We identify the manufacturer and panel weight and fit the right tandem assembly rather than the closest thing on the truck.
- Bring the running surface backA pitted or peened track will destroy new rollers in a season, so it gets dressed, capped or replaced before anything goes back in.
- Set and adjustThe panel goes back in, gets plumbed, and the roller height is set so the door latches and seals along its whole edge.
- Check the weep holes before we goA door that slides beautifully but drains badly will still put water on your floor, so the drainage gets cleared and tested.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of sliding door repair in Tuskegee
What a sliding door repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- the size and weight of the panel, since heavy insulated glass units need heavier assemblies
- the age of the door and whether replacement hardware is still made for it
- whether the frame has moved and needs shimming or refastening
- how much damage the worn track has taken before the call
- whether the fix is rollers only or rollers plus track repair
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Tuskegee.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Sliding door repair in Tuskegee: questions we get asked
Why does my sliding door work fine in winter and stick in summer?
That is a moisture and expansion problem, and it is common across Macon County. Humid months swell wood and vinyl components and expand the frame slightly, which is enough to close up clearance that was already marginal because of worn rollers.
My door came off the track. Did I break something?
Usually not. A panel comes out of the track when it has dropped low enough that the head channel no longer holds it, which means the rollers were already worn or the adjustment screws backed out. Putting it back without correcting the height means it will happen again.
Is there anything I can do to make my sliding door last longer?
Vacuum the track rather than sweeping it, keep silicone rather than oil-based lubricant on the running surface, and check that the weep holes at the bottom of the sill are open. Oil-based products in Tuskegee collect dust and grit and turn into grinding paste.
Do you repair the older aluminum sliding doors?
Yes, and there are a lot of them in Tuskegee. Aluminum frames from the sixties through the eighties are actually good candidates for repair because the frame material has not degraded; it is the rollers, the track surface and the weatherstrip that have worn out.
Will new rollers fix a door that scrapes loudly?
Only if the track is still in good condition. Once a roller has broken through and the housing has been riding on bare aluminum, the track has a groove worn in it, and new rollers dropped onto that groove will fail quickly. That is when we cap the track.
Do you work on the big multi-panel and stacking patio doors?
Yes. Those systems put a lot of weight on each roller and they are less forgiving of a frame that is even slightly out of square, so alignment work matters more on them than on a standard two-panel door.
