Between Roanoke proper, the Downtown Roanoke area and the newer building out toward Main Street, we stay busy in Randolph County, and Valley is close enough that we are often nearby.
Between the established parts of Roanoke and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.
Most doors we see are repairable.Call and find out before you price a replacement.

These are the door glass repair faults we are called out to most often in Roanoke. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Chips or bullseye damage from impactPoint damage that weakens the panel and often propagates.
- Broken storefront glass after impactCommercial glazing that needs immediate board-up and replacement.
- There is a soft spot in the sealant around the paneWet glazing that has lost adhesion, so the unit is no longer fully supported.
- Decorative insert coming loose from the doorThe insert frame has separated from the door slab.
- The obscure glass panel no longer matches the othersA previous replacement in a different pattern, which we can usually match properly.
- The desiccant line inside the unit looks discolouredThe seal has failed and the drying agent is saturated. Fogging follows within months.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why door glass repair fails in east central Alabama
East central Alabama runs humid most of the year with mild winters, so wood movement is gradual but constant rather than dramatic.
High ambient humidity means the desiccant inside a sealed glass unit saturates faster once the seal starts to fail, so the interval between a failing seal and visible fogging is much shorter here than in a dry climate.
Grit trapped in glazing gaskets works against the glass edge every time the door moves, and over years that produces the tiny edge damage that later becomes a crack.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Roanoke: sustained humidity and grit and dust — typical of east central Alabama.

- Deal with the hazard before the quoteLoose or cracked glass is a safety problem. We stabilise it, then work out the repair.
- Measure and identify the unitThickness, spacer, coating, tempering and any obscure pattern all have to match, or the replacement will look wrong even if it fits.
- Order to match the rest of the houseA single replacement that reflects differently to its neighbours is a repair you will notice every day, so the coating gets matched.
- Remove the old unit cleanlyOld glazing and beads come out without damaging the frame or the door face.
- Set the new unit properlyCorrect setting blocks, bead sequence and sealant so the unit is supported and drains.
- Clean up completelyBroken glass gets collected properly, inside and out. In east Alabama we check exposure and seasonal movement together, since most openings here see both and the combination is what causes failures.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door glass repair in Roanoke
There is no single price for door glass repair in Roanoke, because two doors with identical symptoms can need very different work. Here is what makes the difference:
- the size of the glass unit and whether it is tempered or laminated
- emergency board-up before the replacement glass arrives
- single pane versus insulated double-pane construction
- decorative or leaded inserts versus plain glazing
- low-E coatings, tints and obscure glass options
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Roanoke.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door glass repair in Roanoke: questions we get asked
Does door glass have to be tempered?
Yes. Glass in and around doors is a safety glazing position under code, which means tempered or laminated. It is not somewhere to save money with ordinary annealed glass.
What about impact-resistant glass?
Laminated glazing holds together when it breaks and is worth considering on exposed openings, ground-floor doors and anywhere in Randolph County that takes serious storm exposure.
Can foggy door glass be cleaned or defogged?
No. The moisture is sealed inside the insulated unit between the panes, so there is no surface to clean. The glass unit gets replaced, but the door and frame stay.
Is a crack in door glass urgent?
Treat it as urgent. Cracked glass is weakened glass, and door glass gets slammed, leaned on and hit by weather. It also fails the security job it is doing.
Will new glass help with heat coming through my patio door?
Yes, if you go to a low-E insulated unit. In Roanoke summers the heat coming through an old single-pane or failed unit is significant, and the difference in the room is noticeable.
Can I get privacy glass in my entry door?
Yes. Obscure, frosted and reeded options are available in the same tempered specification, which is a good solution for entry doors and sidelights where you want light but not visibility.
