Slocomb is part of our regular Geneva County territory, and between Main Street, the AL-52 corridor and the the Slocomb tomato fields area we are here most weeks.
A lot of what we see in Geneva County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.
One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.

These are the sliding door repair faults we are called out to most often in Slocomb. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Cold air pouring in around the edgesCollapsed weatherstrip and worn pile seals, and often a gap the panel misalignment created.
- A loud grinding or scraping noiseMetal-on-metal contact where the roller housing has broken through and is riding on the bare track.
- The screen door falls out constantlyWorn screen rollers and a bent top or bottom rail on the screen frame.
- The door bounces or chatters as it movesFlat spots worn onto nylon roller wheels that have been running on grit.
- The handle pulls but nothing releasesBroken latch linkage inside the stile, or a snapped internal actuator rod.
- The track has a raised lip you can catch a fingernail onAluminium track peened over by a panel that has been running on bare wheel housings.

The Wiregrass gets punishing summer heat and enough tropical rain that hurricane remnants are a normal part of the year, not an exception. Sally and Michael both did door and window damage this far inland.
Sun loading on a west-facing patio slider expands the aluminum frame through the afternoon and degrades the vinyl weatherstrip and the glazing gaskets, so the door that slides fine at nine in the morning is tight by four.
Sliding door sills are designed to collect water and drain it back outside through weep holes, and after a heavy rain those weeps are exactly where debris ends up, so the track fills, the water backs over the interior lip, and the roller assemblies sit in standing water.
It is why the same repair done properly in Slocomb lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Slocomb: sun and heat load and heavy rainfall — typical of the Wiregrass.

- Start with the openingBefore the panel comes out we check the header for deflection and the sill for level, because a door cannot run true in an opening that is not.
- Get the glass out of the way safelyA patio panel is heavy and awkward. We take it out properly so the track and the roller housings can actually be seen. In the Wiregrass we check tracks and channels for fine sand, which grinds moving parts flat faster than anything else in the state.
- Match rollers to the door, not the cataloguePanel weight, housing type and track profile all decide the roller. Fitting whatever is on the van is why doors come back.
- Bring the running surface backA pitted or peened track will destroy new rollers in a season, so it gets dressed, capped or replaced before anything goes back in.
- Level the panel, then set the heightBoth adjusters are wound together so the panel sits level and the interlock engages along its whole length, not just at the top.
- Test it the way you use itWe run the door dozens of times, check the lock engagement, and make sure it moves with one hand.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of sliding door repair in Slocomb
Pricing on sliding door repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- whether the frame has moved and needs shimming or refastening
- how much damage the worn track has taken before the call
- how many panels the system has, since three and four panel doors take longer to set
- the size and weight of the panel, since heavy insulated glass units need heavier assemblies
- the age of the door and whether replacement hardware is still made for it
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Slocomb.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Sliding door repair in Slocomb: questions we get asked
Do you repair the older aluminum sliding doors?
Yes, and there are a lot of them in Slocomb. Aluminum frames from the sixties through the eighties are actually good candidates for repair because the frame material has not degraded; it is the rollers, the track surface and the weatherstrip that have worn out.
Do you charge to come look at it?
We talk through the symptoms on the phone first, because a lot of sliding door problems can be narrowed down from a good description and a photo of the bottom rail. Call and we will tell you what we think is going on and what it takes to fix.
Will new rollers fix a door that scrapes loudly?
Only if the track is still in good condition. Once a roller has broken through and the housing has been riding on bare aluminum, the track has a groove worn in it, and new rollers dropped onto that groove will fail quickly. That is when we cap the track.
What does it mean when there is water pooling in the track?
The weep holes that drain the sill are blocked. It is one of the most common causes of water on the floor inside, and it is also one of the easiest things to fix, but if it sits long enough it rusts the roller assemblies out.
Is there anything I can do to make my sliding door last longer?
Vacuum the track rather than sweeping it, keep silicone rather than oil-based lubricant on the running surface, and check that the weep holes at the bottom of the sill are open. Oil-based products in Slocomb collect dust and grit and turn into grinding paste.
Do you work on the big multi-panel and stacking patio doors?
Yes. Those systems put a lot of weight on each roller and they are less forgiving of a frame that is even slightly out of square, so alignment work matters more on them than on a standard two-panel door.
