What size closer do I need?
It depends on the door width, weight and exposure. Exterior doors in Dallas County also need to handle wind, and an undersized closer on a windy exposure gets destroyed.
Why is our door so heavy to open now?
Somebody has probably turned the closer up to force a door that was not latching. That is treating a symptom, and it makes the door difficult for customers and staff. Fix the latching problem and the closer can come back to a reasonable setting.
My door slams every time. Can that be adjusted?
Almost always. There is a latch speed valve on the closer that controls the last few inches, and it has probably drifted or been set wrong. Adjusting it takes minutes and saves your frame, hinges and hardware from a lot of abuse.
