Selma is part of our regular Dallas County territory, and between Downtown Selma, Old Town Historic District and the the Edmund Pettus Bridge area we are here most weeks.
The mix of housing here matters for door work. Older Selma homes have wood frames and hardware worth repairing rather than replacing, while newer construction tends to have vinyl and aluminum systems where the moving parts wear out long before anything else does.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What Selma weather does to screen door repair
The wet winter and dry late-summer cycle here is severe enough that a door adjusted perfectly in February can bind badly by September.
Humidity corrodes the steel components in screen rollers and rusts the tiny springs in adjusters, so screens seize up and drop out of their track.
When the door frame the screen track is attached to moves, the screen track goes out of parallel with it, and the panel that used to slide fine starts binding at one end of its travel.
We factor that in on every screen door repair job around the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the rest of Selma.
Local factors we account for in Selma: sustained humidity and soil movement — typical of the Black Belt.

- Check it against the openingWe run the frame through its travel and watch where it tightens, which shows whether the fault is the frame or what it runs in.
- Assess the frame for squareA racked frame will not sit in the track properly no matter what mesh is in it.
- Choose mesh for the jobStandard, pet-resistant, solar or fine insect mesh. The right one depends on the door, the exposure and what tore the last one.
- Rescreen with correct tensionToo tight and the frame bows, too loose and it billows. Even tension is what keeps a screen flat and quiet.
- Fit and adjust the rollersSet so the panel rides smoothly and stays captured in the head channel. Through the Black Belt we check whether the opening has moved with the clay before we adjust anything, or the adjustment goes out again by next season.
- Test the full travelEnd to end, several times, with the latch engaging cleanly at the close.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of screen door repair in Selma
Every screen door repair call in Dallas County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:
- storm door hardware such as closers and latches
- rescreening versus repairing or replacing the frame
- roller and track work in addition to the screen itself
- custom-built replacement panels where the original is not repairable
- the size of the panel
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Selma.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Screen door repair in Selma: questions we get asked
My storm door blew open and broke. Can it be repaired?
Usually yes: the closer and its mounting take the damage. We repair the mounting and fit a wind chain so the next gust does not do the same thing.
Can a bent screen frame be straightened?
Sometimes. Light aluminum frames can often be brought back to square, but a badly racked frame is usually better replaced, and a custom panel is not expensive.
Do you repair storm doors as well as screens?
Yes, including closers, latches, sweeps, hinges and glass or screen inserts. Storm door closers that have torn out of the frame after a gust are one of the most common calls.
Will a solar screen make my room cooler?
It helps noticeably on a sunny exposure. Solar mesh blocks a good portion of the heat before it reaches the glass, which matters on west-facing doors during Selma summers.
The screen slides hard even though it is not falling out. What is wrong?
Either the rollers have seized or the track is packed with debris. In Selma the track collects a surprising amount of grit, and it acts like grinding paste on the rollers.
My screen mesh has gone brittle and crumbles. What happened?
UV exposure. Screens on the south and west sides of a house in Selma take a lot of sun, and standard fiberglass mesh eventually degrades. Solar mesh lasts longer and cuts heat at the same time.
